Count Me In
If you’re still on the fence about coming, then read below about the musicians who will present our entertainment at our Friday and Saturday night dinners. They are from the top of this country's entertainment lists:
Friday Night: The University Club (7:00 pm – 10:00 pm)
The sounds will be from our undergraduate days: The Rebirth of Dixieland and Swing along with Pop.
Special guest with the band will be our classmate, Art Love, still working part time as a professional drummer.
Band leader is Mike Renzi, who pianist Oscar Peterson called "the world's top accompanist." Mike has played for Sinatra, Lena Horne, Peggy Lee, Mel Torme, Maureen McGovern, and currently Jack Jones, Liza Minnelli and Hilary Kole. He was also music director of "Sesame Street" for 12 years. He has won Grammys and other music awards.
The band members are George Masso, on trombone, recently honored by Brown for his classical compositions. He was in the bands of Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey, Bobby Hackett and the World's Greatest Jazz Band. Trumpeter, Jeff Stout, was a lead player for Buddy Rich and also worked with Lionel Hampton, Gary Burton and Mel Torme. Saxophonist/clarinetist, Arnie Krakowsky, was with Tony Bennett, Ray Charles and Artie Shaw, led by Dick Johnson. Drummer, Artie Cabral, is from Woody Herman, Herb Pomeroy and Dakota Staton; bassist, Paul DelNero, worked with Mose Allison, Charlie Rouse, Hal Galper, Donald Byrd and teaches at The Berklee College of Music.
Saturday Night: The Hope Club (7:00 pm -10:00 pm)
Renzi and his Quartet will take us through the American Songbook, spiced along the way with Bossa Nova and other Latin rhythms. Cabral and DelNero will be back along with guitarist Jon Wheatley, who plays with various musicians in world festivals. He has recorded with singer Diana Krall, and played with Dave McKenna, Ruby Braff, Mike Metheny and plays in guitar trios with Bucky Pizzarelli and Howard Alden. He teaches music at Brown.
Requests will be welcomed.
Please don’t miss out on the opportunity to not only re-connect with your classmates, but also to be entertained by these world class musicians!!!
